Professor Angus Buchanan and the early days of Industrial Archaeology
Rolt Memorial Lecture
As a campaigner, activist and protector of industrial heritage Lionel Thomas Caswell (Tom) Rolt (1910-1974) is best known for his involvement with the Vintage Sports-Car Club, the Inland Waterways Association, the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society and the Newcomen Society. His regular collaborations with Professor Buchanan resulted in the setting up of the University of Bath Rolt Fellowship.
Professor Buchanan wrote:
Another major activity of the AIA has been the institution of the Rolt Memorial Lecture which has been an annual feature of the AIA Conference since 1975 … to honour the memory of the first President of the Association.
